What is your teaching style?
I use a combination of flipped classroom and active learning teaching styles. I keep my lectures fairly brief, mixing them with a variety of learning activities. Guest speakers from the business world are frequently featured.
Why do you do what you do?
I worked as a marketing manager in the business world for over 15 years before moving into the classroom. While I miss working in business, I enjoy the opportunity to work with students and help them grow as people and learn to become businesspeople. It is rewarding to watch students grow and develop, and to talk with them years later about their careers.
How do you make learning engaging?
Students are offered incentives to read textbook chapters before class, so they are ready to discuss in class. Classes use short lectures interspersed with interactive activities, including solo and group work, online research, class presenting and short case analysis. Students reflect on what they have learned on short quizzes, writing reflections and proposing solutions to business problems.
What should students know about you?
I quit my job at another college, sold my house and moved our family to Wisconsin so I could take this position at Carroll University. I was willing to make these significant sacrifices because of what I learned about Carroll and its students, and I will strive to live out the university’s mission and serve our students.
On the personal side, I have been married for many years and we have two nearly-grown sons who live in other states.
